Baby Room

mackin childcareThe Baby Room is designed with comfort and cosiness in mind, replicating a homely environment, where our youngest children feel safe and secure, loved and contented. With all amenites purpose built in this building, this room is practiacally self sufficient, retaining its own washing and cleaning facilities, changing space and sleep area. This allows Baby Room staff to spend a high proportion of their time playing and interacting with the children, stimulating their minds and filling their day with happiness.

Children in this room have access to an excellent range of new and traditional Baby Room toys. Resources are frequently rotated to cater for bright minds, that require daily challenge! Group and individual activities take place and include;

Music and Movement, Art and Craft, Singing and Chattering, Heuristic Play and Treasure Basket, Water Play, Physical Movement, and many other fun filled experiences.

Our Baby Room is always busy and we recommend that you book your place in advance to avoid disappointment.

Tweenies

mackin childcareThe Tweenies room ouses the babies graduating from The Baby Room who can walk and stumble, toddle and tumble! This room is in open plan with the Baby Room and hosts those little ones who are beginning to find their feet. As such, there is usually plenty of noise and activity to be found, with the children in this area really starting to discover what nursery life is all about. At this stage of their development, life for our children is absolutely full of fun!

This area has games and activities to suit the growing mind. There are simple jigsaws, large print, colourful reading books, home corner equipment and resources and large physical play equipment. There is also access to educational media, including surround sound stereo equipment for hours of music and dance! Structured activities might include;

Baking and Tasting, Music and Movement, Physical Fitness, , Singing and Dance, Art and Craft, Water and Sand Play

This space prepares children for the move to the Main Floor of the nursery, where independance reigns! In light of this, staff in the Tweenie Room are dedicated to helping children learn basic moral ideologies, such as sharing and helping, tidying up, sitting quietly for very short periods for stories etc., taking care of toys and resources, choosing activities themselves, waiting their turn and so on. Again, the key worker system ensures that evrey area of your child's development is monitored and recorded appropriately. This makes for a very interesting stage of development, where, although still very much toddlers, children in this room are forming relationships with staff and with each other and really finding their nursery feet. Little people emerge from thsi area, ready and willing to take on the world, confident and full of charge.

Main Floor

This is where the fun really begins! By this stage, the children really, really know who's boss, who's in charge and who is calling the shots... and they're all under the age of three!

Yes, the Main Floor comprises of numerous little people who believe the nursery belongs to them and that they are in charge. Which, in essence is true. The nursery and kindergarten has a deep rooted philosophy that the children should, and are encouraged to, take ownership of their daily surroundings.

As such, the children dictate the rate, the pace, the experiences, the activites, the routines and the overall feeling in the room. Staff, via the key worker system, are there to facilitate the children's wishes and do this via a variety of means.

The Main Floor is large, bright, inviting! Toys and resources are at child level, and they can access virtually all games and equipment without adult intervention. The stage is set with typical aspects, including;

The Home Corner, Sand and Water Play, Musical Instruments, Art and Craft Area, Books and Quiet Time

Beside these aspects of everyday play, staff incorporate more substantial experiences, including jigsaws, cutting and pasting, baking and tasting, reading and listening, individual and group singing time, personal story telling, physical play which might involve obstacle courses, races, hide and seek, soft play and chases. Many children enjoy the idea of maginitave play, dressing up, role play, which is always an option the children can chose.

Critically, our precious children have ample, year round access to fresh air. Situated to the rear of our premisies, entered via the Main Floor, they have a purpose built soft play area, that holds a large climbing frame, slide and sheltered area. Stepping stones, trikes and bikes, tunnels and smaller climnbing apparatus are scattered about, whilst each child can enjoy racing around with their friends, playing football or tennis or simply lounging at tables or on the bench with their mates, chatting to their heart's content. Often to be found dining a la carte in the summer months, water play and table top toys are all made availabe in the external play area. Even as the snow falls, staff and children have been spotted building snowmen and having friendly snowball fights! A real hit with everyone who visits, this area of the nursery is by far, every child's favourite.

Kindergarten

Located in a seperate building, the Kindergarten is every pre- school child's dream come true. Immaculately decorated and presented, this space is ideal for educational play and hours of fun.With a more structured approach to learning through play, staff and children design work plans together, incorporating children's interests into everyday routines, making this part of nursery life entirely child focused.

Each child has their own key worker who, throughout the two years prior to school, will take them by the hand and gently prepare them for life after nursery, integrating child friendly experiences with the following aspects of development;

Communication & Language, Physical Development and Movement, Expressive and Aesthetic Development, Emotional, Personal and Social Development, Knowledge and Understanding of the World.

These elements are intertwined into everyday experiences whereby the children are always learning through play. Staff monitor and assess progress regularly with a view to keeping up to date with every child's needs', developmentally, emotionally and physically. This also serves as a transition tool for communicating with teachers when the child is ready to go to school.

The children enjoy junior maths, simple geography, colours, shapes and sizes, basic science models as well as different projects eg. French, German, music and movement, multiculture, world peoples and festivities to mention a few. The children help design and partake in the annual Christmas Show and there is a graduation ceremony at the end of each year to mark the departure of those who are going to school the following August.

Every Child is entitled to pre-school education from the school term following his or her third birthday with the cost being met by the local authority.

Activities

There are numerous activities and experiences on offer to the children as soon as they enter the nursery. Their options are endless as to what and who to play with, when and where they wish to go next and whether they want assistance from adults, friends or whether they would rather play alone. With so many cosy spaces to be found in the nursery environment, coupled with large open areas for group play, the children really do have the best of all worlds.

The majority of toys and resources are available at child height, though some more structured games are kept out of reach as they require adult participation on request. Art and craft materials, home corner and role play equipment, water and sand play, musical instruments and dressing up are all source of interest that are utilised on the main floor most days.

mackin childcareOur technological generation do not miss out an dare encouraged on a daily basis to participate in simple IT skills. Many of these activities take the form of educational games and resources designed specifically for nurseries, but children also enjoy printing and typing, producing videos and music and generally finding their feet on the various computers dotted about the rooms. Computers and accessorries are maintained by an external agent, whilst all staff are regularly trained in such areas. This helps the children get the full use of such items and enhances the sense of fun and evolution of the alternative environment we all encounter in our everyday lives now.

Throughout the year we have different themed activities eg. the four seasons, places to go, people who help us, festivals and so on. This helps children a greater understanding of the world about them and broadens their horizons. We celebrate Easter, Halloween and Christmas with special parties.

The timetable for each age group is flexible and is changed regulary. Parents are encouraged to become involved with their children's activities, and are often invited to speak with staff, join in with activities and generally make their opinions and requirements known to us.

We spend as much time as possible in our garden bringing the curriculum outdoors, supporting children as they find new interests in growth and change in their world. This is always a popular place in the nursery and despite the occasional Scottish shower, much of our time is spent exploring and investigating.

There are many, many ohter activites the children get up to every day... ew have only mentioned a few here. Please ask us for more details on this aspect of our service and we will be happy to provide you with further insight.

Parents Welcome

We are always open to new ideas and positively encourage parental involvement; we have "Parent's Evenings/ Afternoons" to meet and discuss in full, how your child is progressing in all aspects of nursery life. We also have occasional parents evenings so that parents can get together with us in a social setting. Parents with special skills are invited to share their relevant skills and knowledge with us and others and this has led to a number of interesting and stimulating "workshops". If you require to view any of our policies please ask a member of our management team at your visit.

Our objective is to fill the day with fun and interest for the children so that they see coming to Nursery as a great adventure and at the same time we prepare them gently for school and adult life.
