Baby Room

Our littlest ones enjoy the freedom of two spacious, well-equipped rooms housed in their own section of the nursery. Purpose built with teeny tots in mind this is a bright, naturally lit space with patio doors out to our secure outdoors play area. We have a dedicated milk kitchen and adjacent changing facilities used only by baby room. Attached via a corridor to our main play area, our babies are very much part of nursery life but have their own relaxed, peaceful and secure environment.

Our babies fill their days with singing, stories, physical play, waterplay, crawling, toddling, bouncing around and much more! Non-verbal communication is a critical element of this stage of development and staff are always found blethering to babies at every opportunity… if they can get a ‘word’ in!

They also spend almost as much time outdoors as in! Our garden is more like a third playroom and the babies very much enjoy getting out into the fresh air at every opportunity. The garden also provides a space where they can mix with our 2 year olds – under close supervision of course! We find this very beneficial to them, especially as the get to the 18 month mark and want to be one of the big ones!

Our babies eat together in a social manner sitting together with staff. This is an enjoyable and messy experience which has great value in encouraging children to socially interact and to learn to enjoy each other’s company.

After so much fun and activity we have comfortable and safe beds for well deserved baby 40 winks. All activities and events are reported each day via Parentzone – our communication app -so that you always know what your little one has been up to!!

Main Floor

On the main floor (or riot room as some might call it….) the 2-3 year olds have the run of the nursery!

The main floor is a large, exciting, well equipped space set at the heart of the nursery. Our children are never, ever bored here – life is just one big wheel of fun and excitement. Amongst mountains of other activities in this area they enjoy art and craft, dressing up, role play, baking, home corner activities, story time, music and movement, board games, table tops toys, construction, physical apparatus, den making, sand, water…. the list goes on and on!

We have a separate room housing soft play where we encourage the children to get physical and really let off steam.  Rough and tumble – supervised of course – can be the best fun! But if that gets too much then next door relaxation awaits in the zen den. A more subdued, calmer space set aside for sensory play and quietening down. It’s also the perfect place to be with your friends without pesky adults interfering too much!

Our spacious and secure outdoor play area is accessed via double doors direct from the main floor. Housing an outdoor classroom we spend as much time outside as possible! To the front of the nursery we also have our allotments which the children plan and manage. Well, we call them allotments… The children say they plan and manage… Both stretching reality a bit on this one…

Name of the game on main floor is to learn through fun!

Kindergarten

At Munro, we have a very special feature. Our kindergarten is located in a separate building, just across the car park, but with enough distance to make it significantly identifiable from the nursery. Our children treasure the thought of moving up to ‘kindy’!

There they find even more activities and resources at their disposal, specifically designed for their stage of development. They learn through play on a daily basis, absorbing knowledge, choosing what to do and how to do it, learning at an incredible rate and always having fun.

We teach our children to be independent, confident and to prepare for the challenges of school. We have a visiting teacher and introduce more structured activities. We introduce projects so that the children pursue an activity over an extended time frame and from start to finish. We have external activities such as coached football and foreign language.

But we still have all the usual fun activities too! Dressing up, play acting, building dens and imaginary play are still vitally important. The children still visit the allotments and as well as spending time in their own outdoor area they still have access to the larger nursery garden. Our older children love that they can go places the little ones can’t yet!

At this age peer group starts to become very important. Our children build very meaningful and solid friendships, often this extends to the wider family groups. We use Parentzone app to keep you updated on activities and events but our children usually are not shy about explaining what they have got up to during the day, and why they were usually the best at everything!

In acknowledgement of how crucially important the pre-school stage of development is, the Scottish Government offers 1140 hours worth of funded provision per year for pre-school children. You can decide whether you want to spread this over a full year (50 weeks) or over term time (38 weeks). We have flexible sessions and wrap around care available so are sure we have something to suit your needs!
